Inhibition

Unter dem Begriff der Inhibition versteht man in der Chemie bzw. Brandlehre, die Verlangsamung einer chemischen Reaktion, wobei auch der völlige Abbruch der Verbrennungsreaktion möglich oder sogar gewollt ist. Beispielsweise stellt die Inhibition bei den Löschpulvern und Halonen (kaum noch in Gebrauch) die hauptsächliche Löschwirkung dar. Die Inhibitoren verlangsamen also die Reaktion und stellen das Gegenteil zu Katalysatoren dar.
Der Inhibitionseffekt beruht darauf, dass in der Brandwärme die Halone freie tome abgespalten und zersetzt werden.
Der sogenannte "Wandeffekt" tritt hauptsächlich bei Löschpulvern auf. An der Oberfläche der feinsten Pulverkörnchen werden die
Radikale unschädlich gemacht und die Verbrennungsreaktion wird dadurch schlagartig gestoppt.

In chemistry or fire theory, the term inhibition is understood to mean the slowing down of a chemical reaction, whereby the complete abortion of the combustion reaction is possible or even wanted. For example, the inhibition of the extinguishing powder n and halons n (hardly used any more) is the main extinguishing effect.
